Some Officers may just want to patrol, in a marked cruiser, and noting more. We respect that and are aware that we need as many Officers in marked vehicles as possible to fill out the much appreciated rank and file. Sometimes an Officer will be called to do more though. Here are a few examples that are already in practice in several of our tours.
AIR ONE
The helicopter has a the designation Air 1. This unit should only be handled by a competent pilot, and it should be handled with great care. Unless instructed specifically, Air 1 should be on the look out for and monitor suspect vehicles. Air one is often the first unit to spot a wanted suspect's vehicle, and we rely on Air units to guide ground units toward their destination. Air units are not expected to land and will often be issued demerits for attempting to physically block a suspect vehicle. Remain in the air.
During a pursuit Air Units take radio priority instead of secondary ground unit. This means that the pilot must report the locations, speeds, and traffic conditions.
FIRST RESPONSE
When a tour loads up, an Officer may find himself seperated from the rest of the group. Generally this puts the Officer at the scene of a crime that he has to set up. Dispatch will see notes on this crime in the Info section. They will instruct the Officer to perform a certain task before role call. This may mean crashing a nearby vehicle into another, pulling AI Officers out of their squad cars, or simply turning on light bars on nearby emergency vehicles. Most often they will have to pick up a nearby weapon and shoot a murder victim. Next, they must stay with the body, looking at it so it doesn't despawn. They may assume normal patrol duties when back up arrives but are encouraged to report on the crime scene as if they were the first Officer to arrive. Describe the victim, the murder weapon, and play the part of first responding Officer.
DAVID UNIT
Some Patrols include a slot for David Units, or detectives. There should only be one detective per tour, and he or she has access to an unmarked buffalo. Detectives obviously play the part of Investigator. They analyze crime scenes and coordinate with Officers to arrest their suspects. Dispatch will help guide detectives on their investigations. Sometimes detectives will be responsible for determining which suspect will be charged. In these cases, the host will launch a bonus tour, called Warrant. If they are effective, Detectives will receive commendations for their performance.
EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES
This is a host responsibility, as EMS will not always respond to injuries during our capture patrols. When hosting, I have an alternate outfit that resembles a paramedic. When an ambulance isn't spawned nearby, I can either call EMS on the phone or engage a civilian in melee. Using these methods, an ambulance will be directed to your location. Once acquired, the host can quickly change to a paramedic outfit and respond to the scene in question. This is useful in cases involving pre-placed criminals, where no ambulance responds. As for impromptu pursuits, AI EMS will respond when a civilian is injured.
