Here we will provide an brief overview of the vehicles we use on patrol. As with any State law enforcement agency, you will be assigned a vehicle for each shift. You are responsible for that vehicle, as discussed in the protocol section.
The Vapid Interceptor
The Granger
The Sovereign
The Buffalo
The Maverick
The Vapid Interceptor
The rear wheel drive Vapid Interceptor is the most common patrol car in our fleet. It employs wishbone suspension in it's front axle, has good acceleration, and maxes out at around 150MPH. It handles well and boasts excellent 4-wheel disc brakes. The Interceptor can't take too much of a beating, so Officers are advised to drive carefully while on tour. We'd prefer at least four of these units active in any given tour, but some scenarios can be conducted with only two Officers active. Each cruiser is numbered, and that remains the operators Unit number throughout the tour, whether they are forced to change vehicles or not. Car 32 should always be regarded as a reserve car.
The Granger
This black and white Granger is one of the top performing SUVs available. It boasts improved acceleration yet maintains excellent suspension which can prevent it from rolling over in high speed turns. It has a high top speed of about 140MPH. The all-wheel drive Granger is capable of handling off road challenges that the Interceptor cannot. Unless instructed to obtain one, Officers will only receive the Granger after respawning. Therefore this is regarded as a reserve vehicle.
The Sovereign
The Police Sovereign is a heavy bike but it's capable of catching up with most four wheeled vehicles. We don't include the bike in many patrols, but it remains an iconic symbol of the Highway Patrol. The Sovereign is very durable, and it boasts strong brakes along with excellent handling. The SAHP motorcycle units have the designation Mary, as in Five Mary Five, for Seven Mary Three. In pursuit scenario's, the bike is used to maintain visual and quickly gain ground on foot chase suspects.
The Buffalo
The rear wheel drive Bravado Buffalo is the fastest patrol car in our fleet, topping off at around 185MPH. It has superb suspension and takes corners well considering it's 5.7 liter V8 engine. The SAHP occasionally use the buffalo in undercover work, along with unmarked Grangers. We also commonly use the Buffalo during prisoner transport. Detectives are assigned to the Buffalo while on tour, and are given the designation David. All police Buffalos are equipped with interior lightbars in both the front and rear windows.
The Maverick
The Police Maverick has been a staple of Police service since the 1980's. It's features include a three blade rotor, high-intensity spotlight, rear sliding doors, and a state of the art camera accessible by the co-pilot and useful in tagging perpetrators on the ground. Helicopters are used by the SAHP to monitor chases, find drug storage, locate hot list vehicles, and track fleeing suspects. On rare occasions, the maverick is used as a gun platform.
